You’ll find loads of activities on offer these September school holidays. From books to burgers, craft and chocolate, kids of all ages can get hands-on with our schedule of fun.

Beci Orpin Spring Studio Workshop

Beci Orpin is a creative practitioner based in Melbourne. Her work occupies a space between illustration, design and craft. Beci has run a freelance studio for over 20 years, catering to a wide range of clients, as well as exhibiting her work both locally and internationally. She has authored four D.I.Y books and one children’s title. Her work is described as colourful, graphic, bold, feminine and dream-like.


Beci Orpin’s iconic creative style has earned her widespread acclaim and a huge Instagram following, while her best-selling books have inspired many to explore the joys of DIY crafting at home. Join us these school holidays as Beci and her crafty pals host a Spring Studio workshop, featuring a series of free hands-on creative workshops just for kids.

The Spring Studio workshops will be held in centre at Eastland in the Central Mall, Level 1 (near Commonwealth Bank).

No bookings required.

Meet the teachers

Beci Orpin brings together a group of crafty friends who'll be helping out at the Spring Studio.

Alice Oher

Alice Oehr
A designer from Melbourne who draws for business and for pleasure. Her distinct colourful style incorporates her love of food, pattern, collage and drawing. Many of Alice's ideas have made their way onto textiles, homewares, magazines, books, and even once as a series of 6ft tall Ancient Egyptian statues for a marquee at the Spring Racing Carnival.  

Cat Rabbit

Cat Rabbit
A textile artist based in Melbourne. Her work centres around her imagined characters and the worlds they might live in - brought to life through the mediums of plush/soft sculpture, embroidery and print making. Cat Rabbit is also one half of Soft Stories; making books for children, fictional factories and large scale installations with her friend Isobel Knowles.

Gemma Patford

Gemma Patford
Gemma works from her Brunswick studio where she creates her popular rope baskets and experiments with other handmade goods. With a background in pattern making, garment construction, fashion, textile art and styling, Gemma has collaborated with some of the industry’s finest creatives including. More recently Gemma employs her famous ropework to offer a range of projects in her new book Roped In.

Kitiya Palaskas

Kitiya Palaskas
An Australian prop maker, stylist and artist with a multi-facted practice, Kitiya's work centres around reimagining handmade techniques and traditional craft methods in contemporary ways. Kitiya’s work is characterised by its bold colours, humorous themes and kitsch, nostalgic nature and has spanned the retail, music, advertising and publishing industries. Kitiya is also the author of Pinata Party, a colourful and festive DIY book due to be released in October 

Maryanne Moodie

Maryanne Moodie
Maryanne is a fiber obsessed maker working between Melbourne and Brooklyn. She divides her time between designing and creating woven wall hangings, developing weaving kits, and teaching sold out workshops across the world. A finalist in the Martha Stewart American Made Awards in both 2014 and 2015, she sells her work on Etsy, online shops and in boutiques around the country.

Tai Snaith

Tai Snaith
With an experimental playfulness and sense of humour, Tai Snaith works across many materials and in varying sites collage, ceramics, painting, performance, installation and fiction. Tai had her first picture book The Family Hour in Australia published in 2012 and her most recent book Slow Down World came out earlier this year.

Yoko Georgiou

Yoko Georgiou
Yoko is a multi-disciplinary artist with a sharp eye for the whimsical. Born and raised in Japan, Yoko studied design while working as a sign writer and storyboard artist. Now residing in Melbourne, Yoko revels in everyday life arts and crafts and spends most of her time transforming her home into a colourful cardboard cutout wonderland.
