5 Athleisure Trends for Summer

Published on 25 January 2018

If you needed an excuse to live out your tennis star dreams – or to stay in active wear all day – one of 2018’s hottest trends is a good one. Athletic wear (or athleisure because it’s not just for working out) has been popping up on catwalks and Instagram starlets more and more recently, and looks set to dominate best dressed lists for 2018.

Here are our top 5 tips for nailing the look.

Coordinate

Mega style meets major comfort. Whether it’s a solid colour all over or bold print, a head to toe athleisure look is a statement. Go bold with a bright primary, feminine in florals or classic in all black, whatever your flavour match your bottoms and tops. Perfect on the court or in the real world, you’ll look put together and ultra-stylish.

Neutral Palette

Clean, classic and modern, a neutral palette is always a safe bet. Shades of nude, grey and are big this season, with an honorary mention for baby pink. A great pair of leggings, shoes or jacket in a contemporary cut are worth the investment as they’ll take you through the seasons.

Oversized

Another trend this season is the oversized look. Big, comfy and when done right – chic. Baggy sweaters with a hood and graphic print are layered under denim or over leggings for a look that says ‘I woke up like this’. An oversized, cropped sweater can give you some definition at the waist, while a pair of fitted luxe joggers can be teamed with a bold bomber jacket and pumps for an office meets street look.

Celeb Diffusions

High end designers are teaming up with athletic brands to create looks for the street, straight from the catwalk. Celebs are getting in on the action too. Rhianna’s brand Fenty dropped a collection with Puma that – like everything Rhianna – has attitude in spades.

Our picks: Whilst Ivy Park isn’t a collab, it’s created by the worlds greatest woman Beyonce and is available at David Jones.

The Accent

Big sunnies, baseball cap, statement sneakers and a bold lip. No, it’s not Kylie Jenner. This is a trend that looks set to stay this year. Add a pop of colour to your look or a nod to your favourite luxe designer. Statement sneakers are always a good idea and can be worn with jeans or a cute summer dress. Add a bold lip on fresh summer skin with a little highlighter and slick hair.

Our pick: Blush coloured sunnies and psychedelic slides from Factorie. Team with a black baseball cap and some SPF30+ for sun-smart courtside style.
