The Rooms

The Arcade is playing host to an exciting new retail experience that places Victoria’s emerging designers, makers and creators at its heart. If you like to stay ahead of the pack in your choice of handmade gifts, sustainable fashion, organic foods and design-led homewares, this is the place for you.

Inspired by the shoppable apartment concept first launched in New York, The Rooms is like a film set of an ultra-stylish home in which everything you see is for sale. You can shop the luxury soaps by the sink in the Bath zone, take some locally made preserves from the fridge in the Taste zone, pick a one-off piece off the wall in the Art zone or try on a handmade garment hanging in the wardrobe of the Wear zone.

The four interactive and ever-changing rooms contain the wares of around 50 artisans who you might otherwise have to trawl community markets around the country to find. As nothing on sale is mass produced, and some of these independent retailers are only in residence for a couple of months, we recommend you take a walk through The Rooms on a regular basis.

In August, we are pleased to bring you handmade jewellery from Melbourne’s own Simply Alfie and WhiteLightly, as well as the fun-loving collection of Brisbane-based Falling for Willow and the unique jewellery designs of Her Banana featuring ethically mined gemstones.

We also have an array of botanically derived face oils, body washes and bath bombs courtesy of KM Bespoke Skincare, Cossé, Boma-licious and Tilley Soaps.

At the other end of the spectrum, AllDock is here to aid your decluttering efforts with charging stations that won’t look out of place next to your latest art acquisition.

Aspiring gourmets absolutely need to try the Lavasalt Artisan Infused Salts range crafted by Croydon-based chef Sebastian Simon, in particular the eye-catching Smoked Shiraz Salt, and tea lovers should sample some of the best from the Literary Tea Co.

Health-conscious shoppers also need to investigate the envy-inducing activewear of Gym Secrets and Jagger, and stock up on the delicious caffeine-free latte blends created by Jomeis Fine Foods.

As we dream of summer’s return it’s good to know that Atlantis Shoes has a broad range of environmentally friendly sandals and locally based outfitter Leo The Label can make you a slip dress to order.
