First constructed in 1967, QIC purchased Eastland Shopping Centre in 1996 and has since implemented significant changes to enhance the shopping experience for members of the local community and beyond.
The most recent development was completed in late 2002 which saw the expansion of our retail offer to include 230 specialty stores, 9 mini majors and 7 majors. Currently a three storey precinct with multi level and undercover parking, future access to Eastland is going to be greatly enhanced with a new tollway and further developments, integrating it as the prominent retail destination of the Outer Eastern Suburbs.
Nominated in the Melbourne 2030 Strategy as 1 of 13 Victorian Transit cities, Eastland's light filled atriums highlight superior finishes and Centre presentation as well as providing customers with a comfortable and relaxed shopping experience. With such high standards of interior excellence, it's no wonder Eastland Shopping Centre is everyone's favourite place.
Eastland's National History
Eastland shopping centre first opened for trade in 1967 and housed a Myer department store, a Woolworths supermarket and approximately 80 specialty retailers. The centre served the Maroondah shire, since then the shire has developed from that of a rural area to a collection of Melbourne suburbs. Maroondah is now classed as a city with its heart as Ringwood.
In 1993 Eastland's redevelopment commenced and after a series of staged openings culminated in the relaunch of a new look Eastland in May, 1995. This extension brought the Centre to 53,300 square metres with major retailers Myer, Safeway and Kmart and 170 specialty retailers.
Stage 4 Development
Queensland Investment Corporation announced its plans for Eastland's stage 4 development early in 2001. This extension was the answer for a pent up demand within the area for entertainment, leisure and middle market retail.
The end result has seen Eastland extend to 80,000 square metres with car parking for 4,700 car spaces, 70% which are undercover. On the 31st October 2002, the new extension was launched which saw the introduction of a Big W department store, Coles supermarket and over 40 new specialty stores. Then during the month of December, the much anticipated entertainment and leisure precinct anchored by Hoyts Cinemas and complimented by restaurants such as Balsamic and The Pancake Parlour opened. Hoyts Eastland features 12 cinemas offering a total of 3,000 seats. The complex includes Hoyts La Premiere which offers patrons their own VIP entry to the cinema club style lounge and high quality European seats. The ultimate movie experience!
